Defense

In a conference with offenses as electric and powerful as the ones in the AAC, UConn will need its defense to be able to put up a fight if they want to have a chance to compete this year. The high scoring teams such as UCF, Memphis, and USF, will simply run away with games if UConn cannot create turnovers. Last year, the Huskies tied for fourth worst in the country in Turnovers Gained.

The secondary will be one of the most urgent areas the Huskies will need to improve upon. With a handful of incoming defensive backs from this year’s recruiting class, we are likely to see some new faces playing on Saturdays. With most teams on the schedule being pass-heavy, the secondary will be the determining factor in UConn’s ability to compete with the other teams in the AAC.

The Uncertainty Continues

As if the secondary wasn’t enough of a problem for the Huskies, they also lost all three starting linebackers from last year. Youth at the linebacker position will make Coach Edsall’s effort to stop the run much more challenging. Overall, the defense does not look like it has improved this off-season and shows little hope for the coming year.
