Nebraska Football: 5 breakout freshmen to watch in 2018
Nebraska football is entering a new era under head coach Scott Frost. Who will become his first batch of breakout freshmen?
Everything is new in the Nebraska football program. After an extremely disappointing tenure under Mike Riley, the Huskers cleaned house this winter. The head coach is new. Scott Frost, the reigning national champion has the keys to the program.
He brings his whole staff with him from UCF. The athletic director is new. Bill Moos left Washington State to take over for Shawn Eichorst. Moos is one of the best in the business, and is trusting Frost fully to fix Nebraska.
Quite a few of the starters this season will be new too. Nebraska had talent in 2017, but their 4-8 season was a result of bad coaching, and misused personnel. A bad year like that means that almost every position is open for the taking.
There are huge gaps at quarterback, running back, on the offensive line, and all over the defense. Nebraska’s depth was bad last season, and it’s hard to expect a ton of players to make the jump up to starting quality. That’s where the freshmen come in.
Nebraska landed a very solid class in 2018. Ranked 22nd nationally, Frost picked up several key JUCO prospects in just a few weeks. He also landed a quarterback and a few four stars to wrap up the class. Which of these guys could see the field as freshmen? Well, quite a few.
