Michigan State football has had tremendous success recruiting the state of Ohio. Can JD Duplain become the next Spartan from the Buckeye State?
Michigan State recruiting target JD Duplain from Strongsville, Ohio, is a 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive guard. He is among the top targets for Michigan State offensive line coach Mark Staten.
Michigan State has been one of the most successful programs in the entire country for the last decade. A huge part of that success has been its ability to recruit the state of Ohio. High school football in Ohio is almost a religion. They have hung their hat on producing really smart, well-coached players who play with a toughness and nasty streak. Duplain is a perfect example of that.
Duplain is as physical an offensive lineman you’ll find, his tape is full of pancake blocks and de-cleaters on defenders. In the box Duplain uses a quick get off with a very fierce punch, routinely sending defenders flying. He shows great hip bend and moves really well for a big man getting out to pull block. While pass blocking Duplain bends at the knees well and slides his feet.
Duplain told me some of the things that make Michigan State one of his top schools is the relationship he has built with the coaches. The success Michigan State has had on the field, and their ability to develop offensive linemen. He also loves how beautiful the campus is.
Michigan State offered Duplain a scholarship on May 5. He has visited Michigan State a couple of times already is planning to visit East Lansing again on either June 9 or on June 23. An exact date for his commitment hasn’t been set yet, but he’s looking towards possibly a late-June decision.
