Texas A&M football brought Jimbo Fisher in with high expectations. The new head coach is already producing impressive results on the recruiting trail.

The top ranked offensive tackle in the state of Texas is headed to Texas A&M. Kenyon Green committed to the Aggies over Texas, Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma. If Green stays true to his commitment, he’ll be the first 5-star player to sign with Texas A&M since the Aggies landed Christian Kirk, Daylon Mack and Kyler Murray in the 2015 class.

One recruit, even one of the nation’s best like Green, probably won’t change the trajectory of a program. However, with the commitment of Green, Texas A&M now holds the No. 2 position in the 247’s 2019 football recruiting composite team rankings. In addition to Green, the Aggies added a pair of 2020 offensive tackle recruits on Saturday – Akinola Ogunbiyi and Smart Chibuzo. They already have four offensive lineman committed in their 2020 class.

Jimbo Fisher was brought in to build a culture of winning at Texas A&M. The Aggies haven’t finished inside the top 10 in recruiting since 2014 whereas Fisher’s FSU squads never finished worse than sixth overall in the same span.

It takes a wealth of talent to compete for championships. There’s a reason why Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia and Florida State have all been in the national title mix in recent history. Each of those programs has multiple top-5 classes since the inception of the College Football Playoff.

Ultimately the results on the field will bear themselves out. If Fisher can win, and win quickly, the Aggies will continue to reel in top-level talent. If he stumbles, it could take the Aggies longer than they’d like to reach the championship plateau. From where things sit right now, however, it sure looks like Texas A&M has found the missing piece in the recruiting game. Welcome Texas A&M to the top, it looks like the Aggies might be here to stay.
