Georgia football is rolling and Kirby Smart has brought a new energy to Athens. Heading into year three the expectations are sky-high.

After a rebuilding 8-5 season in 2016, the Georgia Bulldogs came up inches short of a national title last season. Last season’s success isn’t the biggest reason excitement is so high, however. Smart’s recruiting is driving much of the hype. His 2017 class was excellent, and finished third in the country. He followed that up with the best class of all time in 2018, at least on paper.

Seven five-stars. 15 top 150 players. A whopping amount of talent, the likes of which we’ve never seen before. That class is being added to a team that nearly won a national title.

Now, everything isn’t perfect at Georgia, though it’s very close. The Bulldogs have quite a bit of production to replace, specifically on defense. Eight of the defensive starters from the national title game are gone. Among them are stars, like Roquan Smith, and Lorenzo Carter. Quite a few contributors are gone as well.

Offensively, the losses aren’t too bad, but Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, Javon Wims and Isaiah Wynn have all moved on. That means that there are open spots. The most talented recruiting class may have something to say about that. Which freshmen might contribute in 2018?
