Jake Fromm had quite the freshman season, but can he top that in his sophomore season with Georgia and make a run for the Heisman Trophy in 2018?
Jake Fromm wasn’t pegged to be the starting quarterback in 2017 as a true freshman, but throughout the season, he sure played like he was.
He was thrown into the fire in his first ever collegiate game against Appalachian State when the Bulldogs’ starter Jacob Eason went down with a knee injury in the first quarter of the game.
This placed Fromm in the driver’s seat to guide a Georgia football team that already had an abundance of offensive weapons and NFL-caliber defensive studs to the College Football Playoff. At the time, the former four-star pocket passer was an unproven talent, but low and behold he would surely stake his claim as to why he deserved the starting job.
After Eason’s injury, Fromm took the reins and never looked back. His stellar play left Kirby Smart no option but to continue to play the freshman quarterback, which made for an intriguing storyline to follow last season. Not only did Fromm turn some heads, but he also thrived, leading the Bulldogs to an SEC Championship and onward to the College Football Playoff National Championship.
With year one under his belt and Eason out of the picture–after transferring to Washington–Fromm can now look ahead to spearheading the Georgia offensive attack, and potentially, eyeing a trip to New York for the Heisman Trophy presentation.
Georgia fans will have much to look forward to between the hedges in Athens with Fromm as the quarterback of the future. Here are five reasons why Fromm has a shot at the Heisman Trophy in 2018.
