College Football: Ranking the 7 worst uniforms of all time
3. Minnesota Golden Gophers (1990s)
Sometimes older isn’t always better — and that’s never been more evident than in the Gophers uniforms of the 1990s. These aren’t “throwbacks” or a one-time thing. This was the shirt vomit the Minnesota brass rolled out every Saturday in the 90s. Hootie and the Blowfish, Hanson, Blossom, the decade had a lot of goofy things and the Gophers giant Ms on each breast area were no different.
It didn’t help that the Gophers also were in a giant depression for victories in the 90s as well. They broke out of the slump in 1999 by making their first bowl appearance in 13 years. The Gophers went on a run of nine bowls in 11 years under head coach Glen Mason who was fired for a 6-7 season but should have a statue of him outside of TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Minnesota can’t help their colors which are a strange combination of maroon and gold that has worked for Boston College but somehow not Minnesota.
