Navy always comes out with a new uniform for its storied rivalry game with Army and last year’s was probably the best one yet. The jersey pays homage to the Blue Angels, a famous naval flight demonstration squadron.
The uniform featured a lighter shade of blue than Navy’s typical navy blue, but that was all designed to resemble the color of the jets the Blue Angels use. Several design characteristics were also inspired by the group.
For starters, the font of the numbers are almost identical to the font of the numbers on the planes that the squad uses and the Blue Angels emblem is on one of the sleeves of the jersey. The most distinct part of the uniform that matches the Blue Angels theme is the jersey and pants, which were made to look like the flight suit of the members of the team.
The most identifiable piece of the uniform is the helmet, which is very intricate and artistic. The helmet decal isn’t a sticker. It was individually hand painted. A finishing touch to the helmet is the Blue Angel planes shown in the same formation they fly in during a show.
The biggest reason why the Blue Angels uniform is so high on the list is because of the precision to detail the entire outfit has to honor one of the most renown forces in America’s military.
The Army-Navy game wasn’t the only time the Midshipmen donned the Blue Angels uniforms. They also wore it for their bowl win against Virginia, so perhaps, the uniforms will be seen once again.
