Michigan State football coaches extended an offer to 2019 safety, and legacy recruit Tate Hallock after a strong camp performance.
Tate Hallock is a 6-foot-3.5-inch, 190-pound safety from Grand Rapids, Michigan and attends Forest Hills Central High School. His dad is former Spartan special teams great Ty Hallock, his brother Tanner is currently a walk-on linebacker for Michigan State.
Hallock had a very strong performance at camp Thursday in front of the Michigan State football coaches. Afterward head coach Mark Dantonio came up to him and let him know he had been offered a full ride scholarship from Michigan State. I asked Hallock what the offer from MSU meant to him. “Kinda everything, because of the opportunity to play where my dad did, and with my brother.” He said the offer came as a surprise, and he wasn’t expecting it.
Hallock was offered as a safety, but said he could play outside linebacker or wide receiver. “I’m just a football player, they’re bringing in.” Hallock is a great football player and athlete, he is very good in coverage and plays with physicality and intelligence.
I reached out to his brother Tanner, who is currently a linebacker for the Spartans to get his reaction when he found out about the offer. He told me, “I was actually the first person he called after the offer. At the time I was hanging with Cody White, Jack Mandryk and Jack McKenna. I put him on speaker phone, and we were all screamed, we were so excited.”
Tanner told me that with him being at Michigan State, Tate has gotten real close with a lot of the guys in his brothers 2017 class. “He has hung out with us after games, and would spend the night on the weekends, so he has made some bonds early on.” I asked him what it would mean to play with his brother, at the same school his dad also attended. “It would be a dream come true! When we were younger, we set out the goal to play together at our dream school. It’s a feeling I’ll never forget.”

With the strong connections to the Michigan State football program already, the opportunity to fulfill their dream may be too much for Hallock to pass up. A decision could come shortly for the legacy recruit, now that he has his offer.
