Texas A&M football wants to solidify themselves as the premier program in Texas. So far the Aggies’ recruiting results are backing them up.

Texas A&M football hopes to join the ranks of the blue-blood programs in college football. In the Aggies’  quest to reach the mountaintop they’ve pulled out all the stops, including the hiring of $75 Million-Dollar-Man Jimbo Fisher. At least in the short run, that decision is paying off handsomely.

Fisher took over the reigns in College Station weeks before the 2018 recruiting class was finalized. In that short window, he elevated the Aggies’ 2018 class to No. 17 in the nation. He’s kept the momentum going into the next recruiting cycle, elevating the maroon and white to the No. 2 class in the nation, one spot behind Alabama, the defending national champions.

Not only are the Aggies outpacing the rest of the country, they’re doing laps around the rest of their recruiting rivals in the state. Here’s how the rest of the state’s programs rank:

  • Texas – No. 16
  • TCU – No. 24
  • Baylor – No. 32
  • Texas Tech – No. 37

Texas A&M has as many blue-chip recruits committed (eight) in the 2019 class as Texas and TCU combined. TCU, Baylor and Texas Tech won’t be going head to head with the Aggies on many recruiting battles. The Longhorns, however, will continue to face off with their current/former rivals on the gridiron. And they can’t keep up.

Fisher’s staff has widened the distance significantly in June. The Aggies have picked up eight commitments (six from the 2019 class, two from 2020). The Longhorns have added just two. Texas A&M has 18 members in their class so far while the Longhorns have 10. The battle will continue to rage on, but at the halfway point its Texas A&M that holds a commanding lead.
