Alabama football headman Nick Saban is usually about 10 steps of his fellow coaches when it comes to recruiting. His new 2020 class is no exception.

Alabama already has its 2020 quarterback position in the bag, as Florida native Carson Beck just committed to the ‘Tide for a football scholarship.  He will also be playing baseball in Tuscaloosa.

Beck made the announcement via Twitter on Tuesday. While Beck is not yet ranked in his class, he was already committed to Florida to play baseball, so his defection must come as a blow to the Gators.

There must be some hidden talent that the ranking experts haven’t seen yet, though–we all know Nick Saban doesn’t recruit just anybody. Beck is already 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, and he is only a junior, so by the time he actually shows up in Tuscaloosa he could be even bigger.

Of course, that’s assuming that he doesn’t switch loyalties yet again.  16-year-old high school boys aren’t exactly known for their constancy. Beck has also fielded offers from Boston College, Miami and Florida Atlantic. While two-sport players aren’t as rare as they used to be, Beck should be able to name his ticket when he does graduate should Tuscaloosa lose its luster.

Right now, Alabama already has four commits for the 2020 class: receiver Dazalin Worsham, from Trussville, Alabama; cornerback Javier Morton, from Stone Mountain, Georgia; and inside linebacker Jackson Bratton from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Both Bratton and Morton are four-star players. We’ll see how the recruiting shakes out later in the year if Alabama actually loses a game this season.

What this means is that Alabama has got a recruiting juggernaut set up well into the next decade. Good luck to the other coaches out there, because Nick Saban is already after the 8th graders, too.
