Texas A&M football is one of the dark horse teams that can win the 2018 national title, but here are five reasons why it’s possible.

It’s been a long offseason for the casual Texas A&M football fan. Why? Because the excitement is at an all-time high for the Jimbo Fisher era to begin.

Plenty has happened this offseason but there’s plenty to be excited about if you’re a Texas A&M fan. Can Fisher turn the Aggies into instant national title contenders? The talent is there, the potential is sky-high and the coaching staff is top-notch.

Here’s why Texas A&M could realistically contend for the national title in 2018.

5. Chance to gain early momentum

Believe it or not, being battle-tested is huge when it comes to making a run at the national title. No, the Aggies don’t have the easiest schedule, but if they can split one of their early tough games against Clemson and Alabama, they will be in good shape when it comes time to pushing for the playoff at the end of the year.

The more important game will be Alabama, but that game comes on the road. Jimbo Fisher will want to avenge last season’s Florida State loss to the Tide, but the more realistic win could come against reigning runner-up Clemson at home.

Let’s say the Aggies beat Clemson in upset fashion at home and then lose to Alabama, they’ll still hold a 3-1 record with four straight winnable games. If they improve to 7-1, they’ll likely jump into the top-10, or close to it.

Beating Clemson and/or Alabama will give the Aggies some much-needed momentum early on and it could carry them to an SEC West crown, which could mean a playoff berth.
