Ohio State Football: 5 reasons Buckeyes will win 2018 national title
Ohio State football is heading into the 2018 season with high expectations and hopes for another national title under Urban Meyer.
The 2017 season was considered a success for Ohio State despite falling short of another national title under Urban Meyer. The Buckeyes finished 12-2 with a Big Ten title and a win over USC in the Cotton Bowl.
Meyer and the Buckeyes enter the 2018 season with sky-high expectations yet again with aspirations for a second national title. They lose guys like J.T. Barrett, Billy Price and Denzel Ward, but return talented players such as Dwayne Haskins, Mike Weber, JK Dobbins, Nick Bosa and an elite secondary.
The Buckeyes are going to be tough to stop in 2018, and here’s why.
5. Incoming freshman class
Ohio State’s incoming freshman class is absolutely terrifying. What makes this any different from the rest of Urban Meyer’s recruiting class? Not much, but he’s adding the No. 2 class in the country to an already-loaded roster is flat-out fear-inducing.
From the top to the bottom, the Buckeyes have guys who could come in and compete right away — especially with the new redshirt rule. This means the Buckeyes could play their four and five-star prospects up to four games and still have the opportunity to redshirt them.
Nicholas Petit-Frere, Jaelen Gill, Tyreke Johnson, Taron Vincent, Jeremy Ruckert, Teradja Mitchell, Tyler Friday, Kamryn Babb, Brian Snead, L’Christian Smith and Tommy Togiai are just a few of the big names in the 2018 class and could all contribute instantly, giving the Buckeyes unreal depth.
