18. Texas A&M defeats SMU, 42-13

Sep. 21, 2013

Coming off the heartbreaking loss to Alabama the week before, the fanbase was noticeably less excited to see SMU come to town. After crushing the Mustangs the season before the results of the 2013 game were predictable. Manziel hardly seemed to exert any effort as he nudged his team towards an easy win.

It took a little more than a half for Manziel to eclipse four quarters of production from former Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert and the SMU Mustangs. Gilbert, who attempted 62 passes on the day only managed 310 yards through the air (5.0 yards per attempt) whereas Manziel tallied 244 yards on 21 attempts (11.6 ypa).

This game was little more than target practice for Manziel, who completed passes to nine different pass catchers. That was quite a feat considering the limited sample size of 14 completions which was tied for the second-fewest completions by Manziel in a victory, more than only the Rice game in 2013.
