Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh got caught taking in a Padres game at Petco Park on Monday. The results? Priceless.

Some stereotypes just seem to fit.

Nick Saban is the drill sergeant. Kevin Sumlin is the club DJ. PJ Fleck is the life of the party. Jim Harbaugh is your best friend’s dad.

The current head coach at Michigan has drawn a decent amount of criticism for his antics away from the football field. Some of it has been warranted — trips around the world with his players, sneaky satellite camps in other states, weird recruiting stories, etc. This time he found himself as the butt of a joke, courtesy of Major League Baseball, and he didn’t do anything.

Harbaugh was innocently attending a Padres game with his family. There were no fireworks or showmanship involved, just a dad hanging out with his kids, celebrating his wife’s birthday.

You’ve got to admit, Harbaugh’s expectant and almost puzzling stare is comical. Not only is he ready for any ball that could possibly be hit his way, he looks as if he’s expecting Yasiel Puig to deposit a fastball into his seat.

Lets’ be honest, the khaki pants, baseball cap and glove are the uniform of your best friend’s dad from the suburbs who drove you and your buddies to the game. He’s a nice guy, a bit quirky, but more or less fun enough to be around. He’ll buy you all hot dogs after the first inning, a cotton candy after the fourth and, if you ask nicely enough, a refill on your soda in the sixth inning.

Sooner or later Harbaugh’s results on the football field will become the national story of note. Until then, he’s got a few more ballparks he could hit up on his way back to Ann Arbor.
