Kansas football isn’t necessarily known for its football prowess, and Vegas knows that, giving the Jayhawks comically-low Big 12 title odds.
If you’re Kansas football, you have to feel like the only direction to go as a program is up. The Jayhawks have not made a bowl game since 2008 under Mark Mangino and current head coach David Beatty is just 3-33 in three seasons with the school.
On top of that, Kansas hasn’t won a conference title since 1968 when the Big 12 was still the Big Eight and it has no outright conference crowns since 1930. Yes, you’ve read that correctly.
So with preseason conference title odds being released, Vegas did the only thing that made since when choosing for Kansas — it made comically-low odds for the Jayhawks.
When I say comically-low, I don’t mean just slightly behind the rest of the pack, I mean not even in the same universe as the last team from the Big 12 listed.
Big 12 championship odds (via @BovadaOfficial):
— Chuck Carlton (@ChuckCarltonDMN) July 12, 2018
Oklahoma 7/5
Texas 3/1
TCU 13/2
Oklahoma St 8/1
West Virginia 8/1
Iowa St 25/1
K-State 30/1
Texas Tech 40/1
Baylor 60/1
Kansas 800/1 (not a typo)
Everything seems normal from Oklahoma as the favorite to Baylor at 60/1 odds, then you see Kansas at the bottom with 800/1 odds. No, not 80/1, 800/1. That’s almost like they’re guaranteeing Kansas won’t win a Big 12 title any time soon.
If someone put down $100 on Kansas to win this season, they would be pretty happy with the reward. So if you have a few extra bucks lying around and you have a strange feeling Kansas may actually win a few games, Kansas would be an, um, interesting bet.

The Jayhawks would use this as motivation if they were actually being disrespected, but the program has fallen on hard times and the odds seem weirdly accurate.
