Rutgers Football: 5 bold predictions for the Scarlet Knights in 2018
4. Rutgers will find a true QB1
Rutgers’ struggles of late can be boiled down to a variety of issues but at its core has been the ineffective results produced by the quarterback position. With the quarterback carousel of the most recent seasons, it’s hard to believe Rutgers will ever find a viable No. 1 slinger.
Three candidates will be locked in a competition for the starting job with each offering different skill sets and something to add to the offense.
Giovanni Rescigno adds veteran leadership, Johnathan Lewis is probably the most dynamic, garners the ability to run the ball fairly well and Artur Sitkowski is a strong-armed freshman that comes with the hope of allowing Rutgers to open the playbook.
There won’t be a definitive answer to who with be at the helm of the offense in 2018 but if Rutgers wants to take a first step in the right direction, it will be to solidify a No. 1 quarterback.
This year, instead of swapping signal-callers when the starter underperforms, expect the Scarlet Knights to finally find an answer.
This will have to come down to a combination of trust in knowing the system and a performance-based evaluation, but all expectations should point towards Rutgers choosing a quarterback to play the entire season, barring any injuries.
