Louisiana Tech went 1-3 in one-point games in 2017 and dropped another in overtime. Can the Bulldogs find a way to win the close ones and contend in C-USA?

Skip Holtz is enjoying a second act at Louisiana Tech. Holtz first became a hot commodity at East Carolina, leading the Pirates to back-to-back Conference USA championships in 2008 and 2009. That success launched Holtz to a position with South Florida. The move came back when the Bulls were in the Big East and still afforded an automatic BCS bid.

Holtz, however, flamed out in Tampa and was dumped after three years by the Bulls. Quickly landing on his feet, Holtz returned to the C-USA ranks with Louisiana Tech. A 4-8 season marked Holtz’s first year in Ruston, but he turned things around with three straight nine-win seasons. The Bulldogs have played for two C-USA championships as the top team in the West, including as recently as two years ago.

Now the next step is for Louisiana Tech to not just get to the championship game but to actually win the league. With one of the most experienced defenses in the conference and an offense loaded with potential, the time is now for the Bulldogs.

Can Holtz and his staff put together a championship threat in Ruston this season? Let’s look at their offensive weapons and the defense’s prospects before diving into the schedule. From there we will predict how the Bulldogs might fare this season. Keep reading for more information in this preview ahead of the 2018 regular season.
