Chris Ash is in his third season with the Rutgers football. Can he right the ship and lead the Scarlet Knights to a winning season in 2018?

Rutgers football is scheduled to begin training camp on August 2. Finally, football is back.

Rutgers had another losing 4-8 season in 2017 and hope to turn things around with a  youthful squad. Life in the Big Ten means wins won’t come easy for the Scarlet Knights, pitted against some of the nation’s best teams.

With a new season on the horizon, it is only fitting to provide a glance at the 2018 schedule and predict how things might play out for Rutgers this year.

Like many other college football teams, Rutgers plays a far inferior team to kick off the year. Last season, the “cupcake” game culminated in a 65-point drubbing of Morgan State in Week 3.

In 2018, Rutgers opens up the season at home against Texas State, a team from the Sun Belt Conference. As with any first game of the season, there may be some rust and jitters, but Rutgers should easily take care of business against the Bobcats.

Texas State is projected to come in last place in their division of the Sun Belt while finishing with the worst record in the conference, according to Athlon Sports.

Given the distinct edge in the level of talent Rutgers will have, this game will more than likely turn into a runaway victory for the Scarlet Knights.

The starters will probably only see three quarters of action, or maybe less depending on the score. In that case, some backup guys will get a chance to play, which is always good to see.

Rutgers will have a large lead going into the locker room and can put the game away early as it shouldn’t have any issues scoring the ball.

Final: Texas State 7, Rutgers 49 (1-0)
