To no surprise, Alabama arrives at the top of the initial Coaches Poll. Let’s take a look at how the coaches decided to rank the rest of the Top 25.

This week, the first Coaches Poll came out for an initial ranking of the top 25 college football teams. The way to poll works is that every week a random draw of coaches, who volunteer to participate, are chosen to rank who they think the top 25 teams are. A first place vote is worth 25 points, and each subsequent vote is worth 1 point less, leaving the 25th place team with 1 point. After the rankings are in, the points are added up, and the teams are ranked 1-25.

Alabama comes in at No.1 for the first week, and Oklahoma State finishes up the list at No. 25. The University of South Carolina, Florida, and Oregon all earned over 100 votes, but failed to make the top 25.

We will look at some of the areas the poll may have been off in the ranking and other areas where they were spot on. Let’s begin with some of the misses the poll may have made, starting with ranking UCF outside of the top 20.
