With the recent release of Netflix’s hit docuseries Last Chance U Part 3, standout wide receiver Carlos Thompson has an interesting path to follow.

One of the best stories throughout the third part of the hit Netflix series Last Chance U was the path of the former Texas Tech Red Raiders wide receiver Carlos Thompson. As a top wide receiver for the Independence Community College Pirates football program last year along with Calvin Jackson Jr., Thompson became a fan favorite on the most recent part of Last Chance U.

His fellow standout wide receiver Jackson Jr. was originally a commit of the Washington State Cougars out of high school, and joined that same program under head coach Mike Leach again for the 2018 campaign. The fortune for Thompson wasn’t quite as good as Jackson Jr. for one big reason.

Thompson’s opportunity to go back to Texas Tech ran out following the end of the 2017 season. He would’ve needed to go back to the Red Raiders previous to the end of last season to still be eligible to play at the D1 level in the NCAA. Because of that, Thompson was forced to go the D2 route, despite a solid year with ICC that was featured on Last Chance U.

As a potent playmaker that is very elusive in space, Thompson was a force to be reckoned with both on offense and in special teams. He could still do that in college football, but it will have to be below the D1 level. If he hopes to take his career to the next level, he’ll have to really make a nationwide impact at the D2 or D3 level.

Here’s a thorough look into what happened to the former wide receiver of the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Last Chance U star Carlos Thompson.
