Texas A&M football is entering the Jimbo Fisher era and despite landing one of the nation’s top coaches, the Aggies could struggle in 2018.

Texas A&M football could be considered a snub from the initial release of the first official ranking for the 2018 campaign in the Coaches Poll. Sitting outside the top 25 rankings in the Preseason Coaches Poll for 2018, the Aggies could be one of the big jumpers in that poll throughout the start of the regular season.

However, Texas A&M does have one of the tougher schedules of any team in the nation this fall. Both the non-conference slate and SEC schedule are going to be difficult on the Aggies this year. While the Aggies do get four non-conference games, one of them will be sneaky and another will be challenging on the national stage.

At least the Aggies get Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks and Northwestern State Demons at home at Kyle Field at the start of regular season. But, the matchups with an underrated squad in the UAB Blazers and a College Football Playoff team last year in the Clemson Tigers are going to be very difficult.

The fact that Kevin Sumlin is out of College Station is likely a positive thing for the Aggies. Jimbo Fisher is now at the helm and having a positive effect for the excitement of surrounding the program and on the recruiting trail for the 2019 cycle.

It will always be a long road through the SEC West slate for any team, even the Alabama Crimson Tide. The SEC West is commonly considered the toughest division in the nation which allows for a lot of potential slip ups for a team like Texas A&M.

Here’s a look at five reasons why the Aggies could struggle in the SEC West in 2018.
