Successful Netflix docu-series Last Chance U has announced it will be headed back to Independence C.C. for Season 4. Is that a mistake?
It all started with East Mississippi Community College. Everyone either loved fiery head coach Buddy Stephens, or flat-out hated him. Either way, the program was successful and good for TV which is why Netflix docu-series ‘Last Chance U’ spent two seasons with the Tigers.
The Netflix series shocked everyone when it announced after Season 2 that it would be headed to Kansas to follow Independence Community College instead of going back to Mississippi.
It made sense, though. One of the show’s main stars, academic advisor Ms. Wagner, left the show and relationships between some of the coaches had been strained. There were major falling outs between coaches, players and even Brittany Wagner so the show picked a new location with another over-the-top head coach.
Jason Brown opened some eyes by the way he talked in Season 3, but the Indy C.C. head coach didn’t care, nor did he hold back. He gave cameras an all-access pass to the locker room and some fans of the show didn’t like the fact that he couldn’t go a sentence without using one of his favorite curse words.
Nonetheless, the show was successful and it had its own controversial star like the past two seasons did: Florida State quarterback transfer Malik Henry.
Like at East Mississippi C.C., there were some coach vs. coach situations and one of the most popular figures, Frank Diaz, departed as the offensive coordinator following the season. He won’t be back, but that won’t change how Brown talks and goes about his business.
Some fans of the show wanted a return to Scooba, Miss., for Season 4, but the show decided to stay in Kansas.
It’s official!

Is this a mistake by the show? Clearly it’s not detrimental to the numbers the show has gotten because it’s been renewed and there wasn’t enough drop-off in viewership to cause panic.
Moreover, watching Brown’s coaching style is more than interesting. The vulgar head coach likes things done his way and when they aren’t, he’s not afraid to get in a coach’s or player’s face — he nearly got into a physical altercation with his receivers coach during a game in Season 3.
Drama is all part of the show and there won’t be a shortage of that in Season 4 back in Kansas, especially with some new coaches and a new quarterback under center.
