Rutgers football will walk out of the tunnel this year in style as it received upgraded threads from Adidas.

The Scarlet Knights have altered their uniforms quite often over the past few years and this year remains no different as Rutgers has new kits for the 2018 season.

Last year was the first season in a long time that Rutgers didn’t wear uniforms produced by Nike–the Scarlet Knights are now partnered with Adidas. The contract is active until the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

The changes to the new uniforms are subtle but still are noticeable enough to stand out. Nike attempted to emulate the “knightly” look with silver helmets and accents to replicate slash marks. The jerseys and pants also incorporated the silver color.

The original Adidas jerseys worn in 2017 (as seen in the Deonte Roberts picture above) went back to the classic look that Rutgers has sported for the majority of the 2000s.

The new uniforms still have the predominant scarlet and white color scheme but make stylistic changes to the jersey and pants. For instance, the stripe design on the side of the shoulders matches the stripe pattern on the pants. Both of these are new additions to the uniform.

Another difference can be seen in the front of the jersey. Instead of saying “RUTGERS” across the chest, now there is just the trademarked blocked Rutgers “R” logo.

The jersey and pants are made from Adidas’ PrimeKnit technology. According to the company, PrimeKnit is designed to be breathable and flexible while providing comfort and durability without any seams. Rutgers along with other Adidas schools are being upgraded to the new material.

Another interesting feature is the white helmet with the red “R” which is the reverse colorways of the original helmet. Rutgers wore this helmet at times last year, so evidently, it is making a comeback in 2018.
