USC football will look to build on a solid 2017 season. The reigning Pac-12 champs lost to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl but should be poised for another big run.

When Clay Helton was made the full-time head coach at USC, I was very skeptical of the decision. It turned out to be a solid hire as he has led the Trojans to double-digit wins each of the last two seasons.

Helton and his staff were impressive on the recruiting trail in 2018, racking up a top-five class that could help restore the glory back into the program.

The team will be breaking in a new quarterback to replace No. 3 NFL Draft pick Sam Darnold, but whoever gets the nod at quarterback will have a bunch of great weapons to throw the ball to. They will also have excellent running back in Stephen Carr who should be able to stay on par with Ronald Jones II production from a year ago.

The schedule doesn’t do the Trojans any favors to start the season, as they face Stanford and Texas on the road in back to back weeks. Coming out of that stretch unscathed could lead to a potential College Football Playoff invite, but first USC has to take care of business in Week 1.
