Texas football coach Tom Herman has been rumored as the tipster for the Urban Meyer-Zach Smith situation at Ohio State.

It’s crazy how quickly things can take a turn for the worst these days — especially in the coaching world. One day you’re on top of the world, leading a historic program back to relevancy and the next you’re a villain, hated by the school at which you were once a hero.

Tom Herman is experiencing the latter.

The former Ohio State offensive coordinator who is now the head coach of the Texas Longhorns finds himself in a precarious situation after being named as the alleged tipster in the Ohio State scandal involving Urban Meyer and former assistant Zach Smith.

According to Jeff Snook, an Ohio State reporter, Herman tipped off Brett McMurphy, who broke the Smith scandal, and even told Courtney Smith to come forward with the allegations.

What makes matters worse is that this is allegedly an act of revenge for Texas losing out on five-star receiver Garrett Wilson to Ohio State this past spring and the head coach is allegedly paying Courtney’s legal fees. Talk about a conflict of interest.

Herman may find himself in hot water following this incident because if he’s trying to throw Ohio State under the bus for this Smith situation, it could mean that he knew about the abuse and never came forward.

Texas likely won’t act any time soon on the Herman issue, instead the Longhorns should wait for more facts to come out and do their own investigation, but this isn’t something to take lightly.

If a head coach is willing to throw his former employer under the bus because of a recruiting miss, then what else is he willing to do in order to win?

Next. The Texas Longhorns are back -- for real this time. dark

The Longhorns will have some big decisions to make in the coming weeks as this story develops, but no one should feel good about job security, including Herman.
