Iowa State Football: 2018 Game-by-game predictions
6. Oklahoma State (Oct. 6)
The Cyclones go right back into a hostile environment following TCU as they travel to Stillwater to face off with Mike Gundy’s Oklahoma State Cowboys. The last meeting between the Cyclones and Cowboys have provided nothing but fireworks. The game was decided by a controversial call that ruled OSU defensive back A.J. Green made an interception while tangling with Marchie Murdock, much to the anger of all Cyclone fans.
Oklahoma State has been a perennial Big 12 power since Mike Gundy took over in 2005. The Cowboys run of success continued in 2017, finishing with a 10-3 record and a win over Virginia Tech in the Camping World Bowl. There are some holes fill in the offense as they graduate another productive quarterback-receiver tandem in Mason Rudolph and James Washington. Senior Taylor Cornelius appears to be set to take over the offense along with running back Justice Hill.
Iowa State hasn’t beaten the Cowboys since their monumental upset of Oklahoma State in 2011 that threw the BCS into utter chaos. With his squad being so close last year, I think Matt Campbell pulls out all the stops and leads his Cyclones to a big win in Boone T. Pickens Stadium. But, this game could go either way as well.
