Just like last season, the season before that and every season that has ever happened, each team enters 2018 with a fresh start and high hopes. And since the beginning of spring practices, all teams have had their eyes on week one.

For West Virginia, its Week 1 opponent is the Tennessee Volunteers in a neutral site game that takes place in Charlotte, N.C., for the Belk College Kickoff (this will be the first-ever meeting between West Virginia and Tennessee). The Volunteers enter 2018 with a new head coach in Jeremy Pruitt and low expectations and facing one of the nation’s best air attacks in Week 1 will be a tough hill to climb.

In a game that pits something-to-prove vs nothing-to-lose, both teams will keep it close throughout the first couple possessions. But with their improved defense forcing some key turnovers, Will Grier connects with both David Sills V and Gary Jennings for scores and the Mountaineers start off 2018 with a big win.

Final: West Virginia 37, Tennessee 20 (1-0)
