Georgia football emerged on the scene as a national title contender last season. What are the best and worst case scenarios for the Bulldogs in 2018?

Almost overnight Nick Saban found himself a legitimate challenger in the SEC. Former Saban assistant Kirby Smart has quickly turned the Georgia Bulldogs into a national championship contender and have put the rest of the conference, and the nation for that matter, on notice.

Months removed from signing the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation and a little further removed from a near-miss in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, Georgia means business.

Can anyone slow down the Bulldogs in 2018?

Best case scenario

  • Sep 1 – vs Austin Peay – W
  • Sep 8 – @ South Carolina – W
  • Sep 15 – vs Middle Tennessee State – W
  • Sep 22 – @ Missouri – W
  • Sep 29 – vs Tennessee – W
  • Oct 6 – vs Vanderbilt – W
  • Oct 13 – @ LSU – W
  • Oct 27 – vs (N) Florida – W
  • Nov 3 – @ Kentucky – W
  • Nov 10 – vs Auburn – W
  • Nov 17 – vs UMass – W
  • Nov 24 – vs Georgia Tech – W

Result: 12-0

The first tussle with Auburn a year ago came somewhat as a surprise. Nobody saw the Tigers upsetting the Bulldogs on the Plains. Rest assured, Georgia won’t be caught napping two years in a row.

Once Georgia gets past Auburn the rest of their schedule should be a cake walk. South Carolina will probably be ranked in Week 2. Other than that there’s a real chance UGA steamrolls through a host of inferior teams before welcoming Auburn to Athens for an all-important regular season rematch.

Worst case scenario

  • Sep 1 – vs Austin Peay – W
  • Sep 8 – @ South Carolina – W
  • Sep 15 – vs Middle Tennessee State – W
  • Sep 22 – @ Missouri – W
  • Sep 29 – vs Tennessee – W
  • Oct 6 – vs Vanderbilt – W
  • Oct 13 – @ LSU – W
  • Oct 27 – vs (N) Florida – W
  • Nov 3 – @ Kentucky – W
  • Nov 10 – vs Auburn – L
  • Nov 17 – vs UMass – W
  • Nov 24 – vs Georgia Tech – W

Result: 11-1

The scary part about Georgia’s 2018 team is their depth. Just like Alabama does every season, Georgia has 5-stars backing up 5-stars. The talent on this roster is way too potent to lose to most of what the SEC has too offer, even on their worst day.

Once again Auburn poses the only meaningful threat to Georgia, and they play in the SEC West. That leaves the East open for the Bulldogs. Even one loss might be too unfamothable for the Bulldogs this season.
