2. Texas A&M can get to the quarterback

The Texas A&M defensive front projects to be one of the strongest units on the team this season, filled with potential NFL draft selections up and down the defensive line. The Aggies led the SEC and were fifth in the nation in sacks last year (43 sacks) thanks to the emergence of defensive end Landis Durham (10.5 sacks).

Durham led the SEC in sacks last year. He’s back, as are Kingsley Keke, Daylon Mack and a host of blue-chip pass rushers who’ll pave the way for potential All-SEC linebackers Tyrel Dodson and Otaro Alaka.

Texas finished second in the Big 12 with 31 sacks but will be without leading sacker Malik Jefferson, who’s off to the NFL. His four sacks would have been fifth best for the Aggies, who return all but on of the guys that topped that four-sack mark.

Defensive coordinator Mike Elko built elite defenses at Wake Forest and Notre Dame. His presence in College Station is only going to make the Aggies’ pass rush that much better. Edge: Aggies.
