Ohio State Football: Top 5 candidates to replace Urban Meyer if Buckeyes move on
Ohio State football is set to make a decision on Urban Meyer soon. If the Buckeyes decide to move on who should be their next head coach?
It is definitely not an optimistic time to be an Ohio State football fan. In early August former ESPN reporter Brett McMurphy open the floodgates when he broke the story of Urban Meyer’s alleged knowledge of the domestic violence case involving former wide receivers coach Zach Smith and his ex-wife that occurred in 2015. The case came to light back in late July when Smith was fired from the university due to his arrest in the case.
Following the reports, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith and Urban Meyer agreed have Meyer placed on paid administrative leave until the university has had a chance to complete a full-scale investigation into Meyer’s involvement in this case. Smith also named offensive coordinator Ryan Day as acting head coach until they have a chance to decide Meyer’s fate. Day became co-offensive coordinator last season.
Initially, the consensus among many prominent voices in the college football media world believed this situation would end with Urban Meyer’s removal from the program, whether by way of him stepping down as head coach or by dismissal. Now the possibility of suspension lingers in the rumor mills.
This situation has sent powerful shockwaves across the college football landscape. If Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes do part ways which men should get the first five calls?
