Three years ago, New Mexico pulled off an upset of Boise State that pushed the Broncos out of Mountain West contention. As of this moment, it was the first and only time that the Lobos have defeated the Broncos in nine contests dating back to 1999. The goal now is repeating the feat, something that has proved far more elusive for New Mexico.

In the past two matchups, the Lobos have lost by 28 points and 14 points. With six starters gone on offense, it is going to be tough to generate enough points to keep up with Boise State this year. While Lamar Jordan is gone at quarterback, though, it should not impact the offense. The return of sophomore Tevaka Tuioti — who supplanted Jordan as the main quarterback last year — provides continuity at the position.

One of the worst defenses in the country in 2017 returns seven starters, which could be positive or negative depending on whether experience yields better results. The Lobos gave up nearly 32 points along with 240 passing yards and 157 rushing yards per game. Containing Boise State’s offense could be tough in this November showdown.

New Mexico gets to host Boise State in Albuquerque this year. It probably won’t make much difference, as the Broncos continue their march toward an undefeated regular season.

Prediction: Boise State 38, New Mexico 21 (11-0)
