Oklahoma State Football: Why Taylor Cornelius is not the answer for the Pokes
On Aug. 20, Oklahoma State football announced that the starting quarterback for Week 1 against Missouri State would be senior Taylor Cornelius.
Around the Big 12, starting quarterbacks are finally being named after a long off-season and a few weeks of fall camp. Oklahoma State football named its starting quarterback with some hints from head coach Mike Gundy following Big 12 Media Days. Senior quarterback Taylor Cornelius was named the starter by Gundy within the past week.
The overall pecking order for the quarterbacks was released too with Cornelius at the top. A former grad transfer from the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, senior Dru Brown, was listed as the second up on the depth chart. True freshman four-star dual-threat quarterback prospect Spencer Sanders was third with sophomore Keondre Wudtee listed fourth.
That likely leaves John Kolar as the fifth quarterback behind the rest of the pack. He never had much of a shot to become the starting quarterback, but he was still mentioned to be in consideration during the off-season. Although, reports have stated that Kolar was not present at fall camp for the Pokes.
Oklahoma State will have some time to get things set on the offensive side of the ball before key competition comes around. It’s not until Week 3 of the 2018 campaign that Oklahoma State has a marquee matchup, which comes against the Boise State Broncos. The first two matchups of the season come against the Missouri State Bears and South Alabama Jaguars.
Here’s a look at a few reasons why senior quarterback Taylor Cornelius will not be the answer for the Oklahoma State Cowboys this season.
