Kliff Kingsbury is entering a crucial season for his job’s sake. The Texas Tech Red Raiders are just 30-33 in his five-year tenure as head coach and something may need to change quickly for him to retain his job for another season.

The Red Raiders won’t be looking like a bowl team at this point in the season and despite playing the Longhorns at home, they’ll have a tough time slowing down Texas’ offense and scoring on an improving defense.

Texas Tech no longer feels good about its starting quarterback position with McLane Carter entering his first year as the No. 1 guy. He finished with just 359 yards and two touchdowns last season. The offense won’t be quite as potent as it’s been in years past.

The Longhorns will shut down the Texas Tech offense while scoring at a decent clip themselves. Texas will get its first big win of the season, in terms of points, and anything past six wins is just icing on the cake.

Tom Herman was just 7-6 in his first year and he’ll be well on his way to 7-8 wins in 2018.

Final Score: Texas: 37, Texas Tech 20 (7-3, 4-3 Big 12)
