Chris Ash has spoken and freshman Artur Sitkowski was named the starting quarterback. What does this mean for Rutgers Football in 2018?

True freshman Artur Sitkowski will be entrusted to lead the offense under center in Rutgers’ opening game against Texas State in Week 1 of the season.

Sitkowski, a native of Old Bridge, N.J., enrolled into the university early and broke spring camp with Rutgers where he showed his prowess in the passing game.

His spectacular spring culminated with a three-touchdown performance in the Rutgers Spring Game, which provided a glimpse of what exactly he is capable of.

Considered the frontrunner for the starting position when training camp commenced, Sitkowski edged out redshirt senior and last year’s starter Gio Rescigno and Jonathan Lewis, who also received a fair amount of playing time last season.

What does this now mean for the Scarlet Knights? For one, it could signal the beginning of the future with Sitkowski at the core of a reinvigorated Rutgers football team.

Given his skill set, Sitkowski, who measures at 6-foot-5, 224 pounds, adds the possibility of Rutgers establishing a solid downfield passing game, especially with a receiver group that is mostly comprised of underclassmen.

The Scarlet Knights have struggled to produce from the quarterback position and the freshman definitely has the abilities to flip the script.

Sitkowski has yet to take a snap in a game that counts but Rutgers’ opener against a much weaker opponent in Texas State should provide the freshman with a good opportunity to get his feet wet and showcase why he was chosen as the starting quarterback.

While Sitkowski has never played in a college game, the Rutgers faithful should be excited about what he brings to the table and what the future has in store.
