SEC Football starts on Thursday. In preparation, we are ranking all 14 programs as we head into the season. Can anyone match up with Alabama?
It feels like forever ago that Alabama hoisted the national championship trophy once again and we said goodbye to yet another football season. Yet here we are, game week once again. Before the season gets underway, let’s take a look at how the programs stack up against each other in terms of power rankings.
14. Vanderbilt Commodores
I know, we’re all shocked that Vanderbilt comes in this low- not. The Commodores bring up the conference GPA and are sometimes good at baseball, but football is simply not their strong suit. They open the season with Tennessee Tech and the head coach is talking about this game as if it is the national championship, not a good look.
“Middle Tennessee has been to five consecutive bowl games. They are a dynamic team,” Head Coach Derek Mason said. “For us, it gives us a measuring stick in terms of who we are and what we can be.”
13. Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee had quite the eventful offseason to get to where they are today. If you haven’t heard all of it by now, let’s just say that the head coach search was a mess. Jeremy Pruitt has now taken the reigns and Rocky Top is surrounded with questions.

If you are a Tennessee fan, enjoying reliving the moment shown above because this season is going to be a wild ride and it very likely will not be fun for those in Orange and White. Bowl eligibility seems like a long shot at the moment, but only time will tell. Crazier things have happened, but as of now, I don’t buy into Old Rocky Top.
