The 2018 college football season is finally upon us, but which players could step out of the shadows and become household names?

Can you believe the time has come to watch your favorite Power Five teams in action? A week ago, the college football season kicked off, but it felt like more of an appetizer than anything else with the main course coming in Week 1.

There will be plenty of top-tier action on Labor Day weekend to kick off the 2018 regular season, including Washington vs. Auburn, Louisville vs. Alabama and Florida State vs. Virginia Tech — and that’s only a small sampling.

The season is finally upon us and it’s time to keep an eye on some 2018 breakout candidates. Each team has a guy who they think will become a star, but which 30 around the nation stand out above the rest?

Take a look at our top 30 breakout candidates for the 2018 season.

Conference USA isn’t the most glamorous conference in the nation. The Mean Green won’t appear on many national broadcasts, but it won’t be for lack of intrigue. Head coach Seth Littrell has brought an air-raid offense to Denton, Texas that is fun to watch and is sure to produce mind-blowing numbers in 2018.

Quarterback Mason Fine isn’t going to surprise anyone. He threw for 4,052 yards and 31 touchdowns on an eye-popping 511 attempts last season. His two favorite targets, Michael Lawrence and Jalen Guyton, both return for his junior campaign and that trio is going to do their very best to break the scoreboard every time they take the field.

Guyton led the team in touchdown receptions last year with nine. That might be the floor of his production in 2018, as will be his 49 receptions from a year ago. He’s carved a role in this offense and has the abilty to push defenses with his athleticism. He’s a hyper-talented athlete playing opposition that can’t hold a candle to his ability. A Biletnikoff watch list honoree, Guyton is going to put up big numbers in 2018.
