College Football: Top 30 breakout candidates for 2018 season
If you’re Baylor, you have to hit the reset button after the 2017 season. Everything needs to start over and positions need to be re-evaluated, but one seems as solid as any: the quarterback spot.
Charlie Brewer was a surprise contributor in 2017 after the Bears, in Matt Rhule’s first season as head coach, brought in Arizona-transfer Anu Solomon. That project didn’t quite work out as expected but Brewer was the pleasant surprise and rose to the occasion as a true freshman.
In his first collegiate season, Brewer entered the mix for playing time at quarterback, passing for 1,562 yards and 11 touchdowns with just four picks. He also completed 68 percent of his throws, appearing in eight games.
Baylor is sure to improve on that 1-11 record from last season and Brewer could be the guy to help the Bears turn things around.
Brewer has the arm strength, accuracy and the tools to become an elite passer in the Big 12.
