Lincoln Riley knew he had a world-class athlete on his roster when his quarterback was drafted in the top 10 of the 2018 MLB Draft. But the head coach knew he was a lucky man when Kyler Murray decided to pass up an immediate contract and money in his bank account for one year as Oklahoma’s starting quarterback.

The second-year head coach played it cool when asked who would start at quarterback to replace Heisman winner Baker Mayfield, but in the end, everyone assumed it would be Murray.

Replacing Mayfield won’t be an easy task, however. Murray must show that his head isn’t in baseball already and it shouldn’t be difficult with the talent he has and the pieces surrounding him.

Murray could have a Heisman-caliber season of his own for the Sooners and if that’s the case, does he still opt to take that contract with the Oakland A’s and bolt for Major League Baseball or does he stick around for his senior year?

No matter what he decides to do after this season, Murray will be one of the most exciting players to watch.
