College Football: Top 30 breakout candidates for 2018 season
Jake Browning is still the quarterback for the Washington Huskies. As long as that’s the case that’s going to spell big seasons for at least one pass catcher, if not two. John Ross passed the mantel to Dante Pettis last year; this year Chico McClatcher will inherit it from Pettis. The results should be similar.
Pettis led the Huskies’ in receptions last season, almost tripling the volume of Hunter Bryant, the next closest receiver on the team. McClatcher could have stepped up as the clear number two in the offense, but a season-ending injury early on in 2017 kept him from breaking out last year.
Fully recovered, McClatcher has the potential to put up video game-like numbers in 2018. The explosiveness bares an uncanny resemblance to that of Pettis and McClatcher is going to be without any other potential stars to help him carry the load. That’s going to mean a lot of opportunities which he’ll turn into a lot of yards, points and SportsCenter Top 10 highlights.
