Getting to start from the beginning of the season, Tyler Huntley will show significant development this September. Even though he won’t have last year’s favorite targets, Darren Carrington II and Raelon Singleton, Huntley will still improve his touchdown-to-interception ration and his completion rate. That is going to translate to success as an upperclassman as Huntley steps fully out of the shadow of Troy Williams.
Huntley’s favorite receiver is going to be Britain Covey. The sophomore returns from a two-year LDS mission and will quickly insert himself into the lineup. Covey notched 519 yards and a touchdown on 43 receptions before heading on his mission. He returns two years older and more mature physically, and will develop rapidly into Huntley’s top target by the end of the month.
Huntley highlights a veteran team that could emerge as a dark-horse contender in the Pac-12 South. Other than the showdown with Washington, the Utes look capable of winning every other game on the schedule. They open the year at home against FCS Weber State. Utah then takes to the road for a matchup against Northern Illinois. The Huskies come to Salt Lake City the following week, but the contest against Washington State after the bye week is going put Utah back to winning ways.
