Pac-12 Football: 3 bold predictions for every team in September
By Zach Bigalke
- Last year, Luke Falk and Tyler Hilinski split time at quarterback. Falk has graduated, and Hilinski took his own life shortly after the end of the 2017 season. It is never easy to lose a pair of quarterbacks with starting experience, and Hilinski’s death is a tragedy, but Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense will go on as strong as ever. East Carolina transfer Gardner Minshew looks like the top candidate to step up as Leach’s next top passer and will have 2000 passing yards by the end of the month.
- Last year, the Cougars led the Pac-12 in turnovers generated. It will happen once again this year, thanks to a defense that returns more talent on that side of the ball. The Washington State defense is going to carry the Cougars through the first month of the year, as they generate at least 10 turnovers before October rolls around.
- Blake Mazza is going to make an immediate impact at kicker. A five-star prospect coming out of high school, Mazza originally committed to Arkansas. Last year he sat out a redshirt season, and since he was a preferred walk-on in Fayetteville Mazza will be immediately eligible to take over kicking duties. Mazza will win at least one game in September with a long field goal at the final whistle.
We will find out what I got right and what I got wrong once the calendar flips to October. But feel free to comment here or on Twitter at @zbigalke to let me know what you think I got right and what I got wrong, or to drop your own bold predictions for Pac-12 play in September.
