Texas A&M Football cruised past the Northwestern State Demons in Week 1. The Aggies looked crisp under the direction of new head coach Jimbo Fisher.

Texas A&M, led by Kellen Mond, put forth a full out effort to rout the Northwestern State Demons 59-7. We saw quite a few running backs and three quarterbacks throughout the match up- allowing each to get good playing time.

We learned quite a bit about the Aggies, even though it was against a team that is of extremely lesser competition. So, without beating around the bush anymore, let’s talk takeaways.

3. Starting Kellen Mond was the right decision

Throughout the game, the Aggies saw Kellen Mond, Nick Starkel and Connor Blumrick under center. Fisher said that each managed the game very well, though it is clear to me that Kellen Mond is quite a bit ahead of Starkel in terms of this competition.

Kellen Mond finished 17 for 25 with two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. The mobility he showed is the actual difference between him and Starkel. No disrespect for Nick- he has fought for this team, but his injury last season drastically changed his career at Texas A&M. He is talented, but his injury allowed Kellen Mond to get the snaps that he needed to become who he is.
