Texas A&M Football will host Clemson in their seventh College GameDay appearance in school history. Do the Aggies have enough firepower to win?

For a long time, College GameDay was not kind to the Texas A&M Aggies. The maroon and white lost their first five appearances on the famous ESPN Saturday Morning staple, four of which came in front of their home crowd.

Their winless streak was snapped in 2016 with a win over the Tennessee Volunteers at home. After four consecutive GameDay losses of one score or less, the Aggies jumped out to a 28-7 lead and appeared to be in the driver’s seat for their first win with Lee Corso and crew in attendance. The Vols would rally with three fourth quarter touchdowns for force double overtime where Armani Watts sealed the game with an interception.

Now the Aggies have an opportunity to turn that singular victory into the start of a winning streak. It has been reported that College GameDay will return to College Station in Week 2 for the Aggies’ marquee game against the Clemson Tigers. Clemson is ranked No. 2 in the national polls entering Week 1, mere points behind defending national champion Alabama.

College GameDay opted for Aggieland over a trip to Columbia, South Carolina to see the Gamecocks take on Georgia or a west coast showdown between Stanford and USC in Palo Alto.

Texas A&M will be an underdog against Clemson – the Tigers are coming off three consecutive College Football Playoff appearances. They won’t be expected to win. But if they do, the hysteria and hype in College Station could turn into a bonafide Playoff campaign of its own. Jimbo Fisher was hired to win the big games, something his predecessor wasn’t able to do. Well Jimbo, here’s your first shot.
