1. Justin Fields is good, but so isn’t Jake Fromm

It’s nice to have competition at each position, including quarterback. At the same time, when you bring in top prospect after top prospect, you can cause more headaches for yourself, the coaching staff and the players.

Georgia has a legit quarterback controversy because Justin Fields is that good.

The true freshman looked calm and poised in his first appearance as a Bulldog, completing all but one of the eight passes he attempted for 63 yards and a touchdown. He also showed his dual-threat ability by carrying the ball three times for 33 yards, including a 17-yard scamper.

Fromm, meanwhile, coming off a true freshman season of his own that saw him lead Georgia to the national championship game, was rock-solid. He hit 12-of-16 for 157 yards with two scores.

The biggest difference you will note comes in the run game. Fields offers that to the Bulldogs whereas Fromm is more of a pocket passer. A mighty fine one at that, but definitely not a dual-threat that can make plays happen when the defense holds coverage.

Georgia has a big one next Saturday vs. SEC foe South Carolina before dates with Mid Tennessee, Missouri, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. After that, they head to Baton Rouge to meet LSU in a critical showdown.
