It’s been three years too long since we’ve last seen a Michigan and Notre Dame matchup, but the 2018 season has brought the rivalry back. It seems as if both of these programs have had this date circled on their respective calendars since the conclusion of last season, and that date has finally come.

Outside of the coaches and players, fans all over the country have been waiting for this heavyweight Week 1 matchup. For Michigan, the result was less fortunate. A late-game fumble by newly minted started Shea Patterson sealed the victory for the Irish and dealt a blow to the Wolverines’ College Football Playoff aspirations.

With the first week of football now in the books for both Notre Dame and Michigan, here are three takeaways as they head into their respective Week 2 matchups.
