Hours prior to the start of the 2018 season, Washington football took a massive hit to their offensive line — offensive lineman Trey Adams will not play against Auburn.

Washington senior left tackle Trey Adams will not play versus the ninth-ranked Auburn Tigers on Saturday. According to The Seattle Times, the preseason All-American failed to even make the trip to Atlanta for the season-opener.

Adams, who needed surgery to repair a torn ACL last season, didn’t travel with the team due to a back injury. So while it’s encouraging it isn’t another knee injury for Adams, back issues for a 6-foot-8, 316-pound warrior isn’t a great way to start the season.

Sophomore Luke Wattenberg replaced Adams in his absence down the stretch last season, and will likely shift from his guard position to left tackle again versus Auburn on Saturday. Junior Jared Hilbers was listed as Adams’ backup this week and could see time as well.

Adams has a slew of accolades, too, including a 2016 First-Team All-Pac-12
selection, a 2016 Second-Team All-America selection (Football Writers), a 2016 ESPN Mid-Season All-America First Team member, and was a 2016 USA Today Mid-Season All-America First Team selection.

The No. 6 Washington Huskies square off against the No. 9 Auburn Tigers at 3:30 on ABC in the 2018 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game. This is the only opening-weekend game between two top-10 opponents. Hopefully, Adams’ injury won’t hinder the Huskies’ attack too much.

Saturday’s matchup will be the first-ever between the Tigers and the Huskies on the gridiron. It will also be the Chick-Fil-a Kickoff Game’s first-ever matchup between a Pac-12 and SEC opponent. Neither team has previously played in the CFA Kickoff.
