Rutgers football began the 2018 season on a high note, taking care of Texas State by a final score of 35-7. It was an encouraging start for the Scarlet Knights.

In a game that was expected to be a win, Rutgers did its job to secure victory No. 1 in the season opener and the first game of the Artur Sitkowski era.

The Scarlet Knights faced an inferior opponent in Texas State and despite notching a win, didn’t play a pristine game.

However, there were a lot of things that went right for Rutgers which provided for an exciting prologue to what has the prospect of being the most successful season under head coach Chris Ash in his three-year tenure thus far.

Rutgers scored easily on its opening drive of the game and didn’t look back from there as it controlled the lead for the entirety of the game.

Here are three main takeaways from the Scarlet Knights’ tilt against Texas State.
