1. Don’t even think about worrying about Bryce Love

Bryce Love was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy following the 2017 season. Analysts are already pegging him as one of the favorites to win the award outright this year. But despite all the preseason accolades, Love managed just 29 yards rushing and no touchdowns against a Mountain West squad on his home field.

Good teams find a way to win. Stanford might not be excellent, they may not be great, but the talent on this roster is good enough to defeat San Diego State. With Love having an uncharacteristically rough night, Stanford turned to receiver Arcega-Whiteside.

Arcega-Whiteside had his way with the San Diego State secondary. It didn’t matter who the Aztecs put on him or what coverage they employed. He got behind his man time and time again, ending the night with 226 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Why force it to Love when you’re getting that kind of production?

Yes, Stanford is going to need better performances from their Heisman candidate this season. But a quiet game in Week 1 is nothing to worry about.
