2. Did Mike Elko make this defense too physical or are the rules too soft?

The Aggies had two senior leaders on defense ejected in the first half for targeting. Both calls were questionable at best, in my own opinion, but it is what it is. The question now, however, is if the players are too physical and pushing too hard or if the rules are simply too soft?

Many are on the side of safety Donovan Wilson and linebacker Otaro Alaka. They say that the Northwestern State players leaned into extra contact for the sole purpose of getting the call and the penalty. Whether that is true or not, both players missed the remainder of the matchup. Thankfully for the Aggies, they will not miss playing time against Clemson next week.

Honestly, this isn’t even an Aggie only overreaction. Are the targeting rules ruining college football? Has it been taken too far?  Are players getting ejected for clean hits? Should the other player involved in the hit be required to leave the game for concussion protocol immediately? That is my vote for sure because as of now it is more about the ejection and less about player safety.

Whatever your belief is, this will be a big worry heading into Clemson week. How physical can these guys get without getting in trouble? I guess we will all find out next Saturday live from Kyle Field.
